Approximately 45 million Americans are 65 or older, by 2030 that number will increase to 73 million. This is why AARP Livable Communities supports the efforts of neighborhoods, towns, cities, and rural areas in becoming wonderful places for people of all ages to live together. In order for our communities to be as age-friendly as possible this initiative focuses on eight specific areas of livability:
1. Outdoor spaces and buildings
2. Transportation
3. Housing
4. Social Participation
5. Respect and Social Inclusion
6. Civic Participation and Employment
7. Communication and Information
8. Community and Health Services
50 Forward Mohawk Valley along with the Oneida County Office for the Aging & Continuing Care and The Community Foundation of Herkimer & Oneida County have partnered together to bring the Livable Communities initiative to Oneida County.
