Fitness

50 Forward Parkway Center boasts a full fitness center, a gymnasium, and a variety of classes that will help you to stay fit, healthy, and active.

Fitness Center

Fitness Center Hours.
Monday-Thursday: 7:00 am – 9:00 pm
Friday: 7:00 am – 8:00 pm
Saturday & Sunday: 9:00 am – 12:00 pm
The Fitness Center at the Parkway Center has a variety of workout equipment to suit your needs. This equipment includes: treadmills, stationary bikes, elliptical machines, weightlifting machines, a rowing machine, and some free weights.

Walking & Open Bike

Members can walk in the gym Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:30-8:45 am. When the weather is good we invite you to take a walk through the paths outside the Parkway; you can walk through our lovely gardens and up the Memorial Parkway it’s a beautiful walk. You can also ride bikes every morning at 8:00 am.

Monday
Aerobics 9:00 am

This class is a full-body workout: cardio, strength training, flexibility, and balance/coordination in one hour! In this class you will alternate episodes of aerobics with 2 minute segments of strength training. In the last 15 minutes you will focus on stomach toning, flexibility, and balance/coordination. We recommend wearing comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely and sneakers.

This class is taught by Cat Wright.

Core Conditioning 9:30 am

The core is the powerhouse of the body. Learn how to strengthen your core without doing sit-ups!

Class is taught by Kathy Bateman.

Flex & Flo Yoga 10:30 am

This class focuses on connecting asana (poses) with breath, flowing from one asana to another to build strength, flexibility, focus, balance, and peace in the mind and spirit. Please wear comfortable flexible clothing and bring a yoga mat for this class.

Zumba Chair 10:30 am

Chair Zumba is a modified Zumba class for active older adults that recreates the original moves you love at a lower intensity. The class focuses on balance, range of motion, and coordination.

This class is taught by Susan Crawford.

Dance Therapy 12:30 am

If you love to dance, or wish you could dance, and listen to Neil Diamond you will like this “learning to dance” therapy class. Be ready to put your dancing shoes on and have some fun, while getting great exercise and laughing along the way.

Open Pickleball 1:00 pm

Pickleball is a racquet like sport that combines elements of badminton, tennis, and table tennis. Tow, three, or four players use solid wood paddles to hit a ball, similar to a wiffle ball, over a net. You may wear any comfortable clothing, and sneakers.

Tuesday
Muscular Strength Training 9:30 am

This is a class that is sponsored by Silver Sneakers, and is FREE to Silver Sneakers members. This is a multi-level, equipment based, total body conditioning class designed to increase strength and flexibility. Participants move to music through a variety of exercises for the upper and lower body. You may wear any comfortable clothing that allows you to move move freely, sneakers are highly encouraged.

This class is taught by Kathy Bateman.

Zumba Gold 10:30 am

This Zumba program fuses hypnotic Latin rhythms and easy to follow moves. You can wear any comfortable clothing that allows you to move freely, and sneakers are highly encouraged.

This class is taught by Susan Crawford.

STEPS - Utica College Physical Therapy 10:15 am

This is a health and wellness program with a goal of assisting individuals in achieving improvements in their health and well-being. During this program participants are paired one-on-one with a doctoral student who will design a program specifically for the participants.

This program is a partnership with Utica College Physical Therapy and is managed by Professors of PT and Doctoral PT students..

Line Dancing 1:00 pm

Besides being fun and making you feel good, line dancing also incorporates a variety of different exercise elements that include cardiovascular exercise for your heart, strength training for your muscles, and endurance for over all body function.

Thursday

StayYoung StrongBones 1:00 pm

SYSB’s is a program that was developed at Tufts University by Dr. Miriam Nelson and is custom designed to address specific age related problems, health, wellness, and vibrant aging. Disability and reduced ability to perform daily activities are primary concerns for many people today. Strength training is an extremely powerful antidote to loss of muscle, bone density, and the development of chronic diseases.

This class is taught by Bonnie Fenner.

Friday

Chair Yoga 10:00 am

This class is designed for people with physical challenges or those that do not want to get down on the floor. The class will incorporate mindfulness techniques, breathing, stretching, strength conditioning for the joints, and balance exercises. No mat is required.

Beginners Yoga 11:30 am

This class focuses on learning asana (poses) and breathing techniques that will nurture your mind, body, and spirit. Respecting the varied nature of the students body and range of motion, we will connect the basic poses into a gentle flow allowing the breath and gentle movement of the body to connect. Wear comfortable clothing and bring a yoga mat.

  • Membership has its benefits: Discount program fees, mailed monthly newsletters, opportunity to attend all events that are hosted for members, and the discounted rate for the Fitness Room.

    Fees:

    • Senior Center: $30 per year for renewals, and $35 per year for new members
    • Fitness Room and Membership: $80.00 per year for renewals, and $85.00 per year for new members
    • Lifetime Membership: $250
    Includes security card. All memberships are due one (1) year after joining, and your membership will begin on the 1st day of the month in which you join.
